Kourosh Yaghmaei
Kourosh Yaghmaei composed and sang Persian psychedelic rock when the form was new, setting classical Persian poetry and new lyrics alike over electric guitar. After 1979 his music was banned from Iran's airwaves, markets and homes, and his name from the press, so the records lived on without their maker's name attached to anything new. In 2011 the Los Angeles label Now-Again released Back from the Brink, a collection of his pre-revolution recordings, and a worldwide audience met the sound decades late.
Gol-e Yakh was his debut single, and it nearly outgrew him: banned at home after 1979, rediscovered abroad thirty years later. Raised in Tehran, he set classical Persian poetry and new lyrics alike over electric guitar, and the pairing inside Gol-e Yakh, a young poet's winter flower carried on psychedelic rock, is the whole method in one song.
