Varoujan

Varoujan Hakhbandian, known simply as Varoujan, was born to an Armenian family in Qazvin in 1936 and trained at Tehran's higher school of music. He wrote his first film score in 1968 and went on to compose or arrange more than a hundred songs, among them the records that made Iranian pop sound the way it does, for Googoosh alone Harf, Pol, Bâvar Kon and Hamsafar. He had a weak heart, and died in Tehran on 17 September 1977, at forty, thirteen days after collapsing during a film-score recording.
